Thrissur: The police here on Monday lathicharged Youth Congress workers who took out a protest march through the town as a part of the flash hartal declared by the organisation protestoing the twin murder in Kanhangad on Sunday.

The protestors pulled down the traffic dividers and tried to destroy the banners and flex boards carrying the pictures of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan which resulted in a tiff with the cops.

The protest march was blocked near the office of the city police commissioner and it led to the tussle between the cops and the YC activists.

The police then resorted to lathicharge to disperse the protestors.

East police said only a case for taking out a procession without permission was registered in view of the hartal.

Nearly 15 YC men who conducted sit-in protest on the road at Vadanappally were arrested by the cops and were later released.
