Hyderabad: Former Judge ‘reveals’ DGP’s high ambitions

Hyderabad: The remarks of former acting Chief Justice V. Eshwaraiah of the Andhra Pradesh High Court, made in good spirit, might have just revealed the plans of Telangana director-general of police M. Mahendar Reddy after he retires from service.
Speaking during the launch of Cyber Rakshaks, a programme aimed at digital safety, launched at the DGP office on Monday, Justice Eshwaraiah said, “He (Mahendar Reddy) has the potential of becoming the home minister of the state.”
This statement created a buzz in the IPS circles.
Many in the room were taken by surprise by what Justice Eshwaraiah said.
The remark appeared to indicate that the top cop is likely to enter politics following his close association with the powers-that-be.
Mr Mahendar Reddy has a few months left before he reaches the age of superannuation.
Mr Mahendar Reddy served as Hyderabad police commissioner before he was made the Director-General of Police.
Appointed in November 2017, he was the second DGP of Telangana state after Mr Anurag Sharma.
