Intach-H irked by delisting heritage
The government was being guided by advisers who had no knowledge.
Hyderabad: The state government came under fire on Monday from Intach, Hyderabad, for releasing the controversial Government Order 183 which struck down the protected status given to about 160 heritage buildings, rock formations and precincts.
At an event organised at Salarjung Museum to mark International Day on Monuments and Sites, Mr Sajjad Shahid, Intach-H convener, Hyderabad, said that the government was being guided by advisers who had no knowledge of and scant regard for the city's heritage and culture. Intach-H criticised Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao for keeping mum on the issue of demolition of the Osmania Hospital.
On the occasion, Air Commodore Suresh Badyal, Air Officer Commanding of Air Force Station Begumpet, presented awards to six heritage structures. Keeping in mind this year's theme, The Heritage of Sport, Intach-H remembered S.A. Rahim, who led the Indian football team to the semifinals of the Melbourne Olympics in 1956, and Ghouse Mohammed Khan of the Hyderabad City Police, who was the first Indian to reach the quarterfinals of Wimbledon in 1939.
