Uttar Pradesh airport named after Gorakhnath

Lucknow: The Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh has decided to name the Gorakhpur airport as Maha Yogi Gorakhnath Airport. The Agra airport will be named as Deendayal Upadhyaya airport.

A proposal to this effect was passed by the state cabinet which met here on Tuesday and will be sent to the central government.

Interestingly, this decision is not in consonance with the Modi government which had announced in February this year that all airports in the country would be named after cities they are located in and not after personalities. This was decided in light of perceived inconvenience caused to passengers and foreign tourists who may not be familiar with Indian personalities and find it easy to identify airports with the cities.
