Chennai: The state government has informed Madras high court that appropriate action will be taken against government school teachers, who absent themselves during evaluation of answer scripts of classes 10, plus-1 and plus-2. Special Government Pleader (Education) C. Munusamy gave an assurance before Justice S. Vaidyanathan when a petition filed by a plus-2 student came up for hearing on Wednesday.

“Suitable action will be taken against the striking teachers and the results will be published as per schedule without any delay”, Munusamy added. The judge ordered notice to the authorities and Tamil Nadu Higher Secondary School PG Teachers Associations and posted to April 24, further hearing of the petition filed by K. Narmatha represented by her father K. Kotty, which sought a direction to the authorities to ensure that the evaluation of Class 12 examinations held in March-April 2018 was completed as per schedule and the results published in May 2018.

According to petitioner, the evaluation for 2017-18 examinations in respect of plus-2 class scheduled to be carried out from April 11 and 25 and the results will be announced on May 16. However, PG teachers boycotted the evaluation process to press their demands relating to pension. If the evaluation was not completed within the schedule, the same would result in postponement of announcement of results.

Such postponement of publication of results would seriously impact students making them unable to apply to their higher education within the deadlines stipulated by colleges and universities offering higher education, she added.

She said it was the duty of the authorities to ensure that the evaluation process was carried out as per schedule and the results were declared without any delay. Teachers were duty bound to ensure that the valuation process was completed expeditiously so as to facilitate the declaration of results.

The competitive undergraduate courses admission examinations like CLAT, JEE and Neet are all dependent upon results of students in class 12. Everyday's delay will seriously affect the interest of the students since the submission of plus-2 mark statement was an essential requirement for admission into any professional undergraduate college, she added.
