DMK cadres march towards Raj Bhavan, seek Tamil Nadu Governor removal

Chennai: In the land of protests, the latest flood of outrage happened on Chennai roads as Opposition DMK members marched towards the Raj Bhavan raising slogans demanding the recall of Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit. Former Mayor Ma. Subramanian, who led the march, told reporters that Purohit's continuance in TN has become untenable as he has been continuously interfering with the state administration in violation of Constitutional norms and besides, his conduct has made the Tamil women unsafe.

The Opposition DMK, which denounced the governor's action, took the sudden flash protest adding tension near the highly secured Raj Bhavan and the Saidapet Court area. The demonstration also affected the peak hour traffic in parts of South Chennai and the demonstrators of DMK and other fringe outfits were detained by the police and later released in the evening.
 
Saidapet DMK MLA Ma. Subramanian, who led the protest, warned that the protests would continue against the governor until the Centre calls him back. "Thalapathy (M.K. Stalin) had slammed Purohit for his regular district review meetings with state officials.

And his image among the Tamils has completely taken a beating and the state of Tamil Nadu does not deserve such a governor with tainted image", Subramanian told DC. "This is the third incident against the governor and his conduct with women is constantly under a cloud", he alleged. In Cuddalore, he peeped inside a restroom and now an accused luring women in to sexual acts is linked with the governor, he added. AIADMK rebel leader T.T.V. Dhinakaran in a statement urged Banwarilal to retire from Tamil Nadu. 

Pro-Tamil outfit Ta-mizhaga Vazhvurimai Katchi also held a demonstration in south Chennai. The demonstrators shouted slogans against the governor and demanded the Centre and the President to recall the governor. He should have also avoided the pat on a senior woman reporter, he added.
