Kozhikode: Hunger strike to begin on May 18
M.G.S Narayanan to lead strike against poor roads.
Kozhikode: The members of Mananchira- Vellimadukunnu Road Action committee will kick start the hunger strike as declared earlier against the government laxity in delaying the procedures of the road development work, from May 18 onwards.
Demands include the provision of Rs 112 crores that was allotted for the people who signed up an agreement to give up their land for road development, takeover of the remaining land lawfully, and granting of compensation for vendors and shopkeepers.
Mr Narayanan had initially formulated to carry out the indefinite group hunger strike this month but after receiving medical advice for a bed-rest due to his feeble health conditions, the strike was postponed.
Joint regional conventions to be held on April 29, 30 and May 2 with the active involvement of the office bearers from Velimadukunnu, Nadakkave, Civil station residence associations, corporation councilors and different wirepuller’s from different sectors of the society.
Mananchira-Velimadukkunu action committee working president Adv. Mathew Katikana will orchestrate a proclamation rally on May 11, starting near JDT school, Velimadukkunnu and to terminate at 7 PM in Kidson corner.
As part of the protest a ‘Smarana Jwala’, will be lighted near Mananch-ira Public Library in the fond memory of the departed souls, who lost their lives in accidents on Mananchira-Velimadukunu road. Family members of the deceased souls will also be part of the ceremony.
“People are expecting a valid step to be taken from the government’s side to ensure the safety of the vehicles cruising through this road”, said Mr Mathew Katikana. No promises given by the MLA’s or ministers regarding the safety of this road has been carried out which has been the prime reason behind the agitation, he added.
