Bhubaneswar: Criticising the BJP’s ‘double-engine’ theory, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursday said the saffron party would fail to have such a privilege in the state.

He also went on to claim that the BJP’s main engine will derail at Delhi.

Launching a blistering attack on the BJP government over its ‘double-engine’ theory, Mr Patnaik, questioned why saffron party suffered poll debacles in some states despite having its own party in power.

Addressing a public meeting at Banki, Mr Patnaik said the BJP’s ‘double-engine’ had already derailed in at least five states (Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Rajasthan and Punjab) which went to polls after 2014 and its ‘main engine’ was going to meet the same fate on May 23, when results of the general elections would be declared.

“There was double-engine government of BJP in these five states. What development the party made in these states?” he asked.

In the same vein, the BJD chief said, “Many BJP leaders are talking about forming double-engine government in Centre and Odisha. But the people here want to know from the party as to who is the engine in the state.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP national president Amit Shah who have addressed nearly a dozen political rallies in Odisha in the past one month, have been pleading with the people of Odisha to vote for the BJP to come to power in the state and retain power at the Centre.

Mr Patnaik further stated that the BJP leaders were frequenting the state during election time only to seek votes.

“The party leaders have gone crazy sensing defeat in the general elections,” he asserted.
