Telangana geared up for local elections
According to sources, elections to the 535 ZPTCs and 5,817 MPTCs in 32 districts will be held in three phases.
Hyderabad: The Telangana State Election Commission has completed all arrangements to conduct elections to the zilla parishad and mandal parishad territorial committees in the state. The SEC is likely to announce the election schedule in a day or two.
On Thursday, State Election Commissioner V. Nagireddy met with collectors, police superintendents and other officials regarding the poll arrangements. Chief Secretary S.K. Joshi and Director-General of Police M Mahendar Reddy also attended the meeting.
According to sources, elections to the 535 ZPTCs and 5,817 MPTCs in 32 districts will be held in three phases. There will be a total of 32,007 polling centres.
The first phase election notification will be issued on April 22 and election will be held on May 6 to 212 ZPTCs and 2,365 MPTCs.
For the second phase covering 199 ZPTCs and 2,109 MPTCs, the notification will be issued on April 26 and elections will be held on May 10.
The third phase poll will be held on May 10 in 124 ZPTCs and 1,343 MPTCs, and notification will be issued on April 30.
Polling will be held in one phase in Medchal-Malkajgiri district. It will in two phases in Jagtial, Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Sircilla, Gadwal, Mahbubnagar, Narayanpet, Ranga Reddy, Vikarabad and Warangal Urban districts elections.
In Adilabad, Asifabad, Manchiryal, Nirmal, Kothagudem, Khammam, Nagarkurnool, Wanaparthy, Medak, Siddipet, Sangareddy, Kamareddy, Nizamabad, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Bhongir, Jangaon, Bhupalpally, Mahabubabad, Warangal Rural and Mulugu districts, the elections will be held in three phases.
