Chennai: Brothers aged 12 and 7 drown in well

Chennai: A 12-year-old class VI student and his younger brother drowned in a well in a farm when they ventured out in the rain in Mudichur near Tambaram.
Police identified the victims as G Gopinath, 12 and his brother G Nithish, (7) who was in class II. Both residents of Lakshmipuram were under the care of their grandmother who advised them not to venture out in the rain on Wednesday.
Their father Gopinath works in a soda manufacturing firm while mother Nadia is employed in an export firm. After convincing their grandmother that they would take care of themselves the boys went out and never returned. As the two failed to return, the old woman started looking for them and was later joined by Gopinath and Nadia.
They spotted the clothes of the two boys near a farm well in Varadarajapuram, 2 km away from the house. "It was almost sure that the boys drowned in the farm well. They seem to have removed the clothes and got into the well where they drowned," police said.
It was too late for the police and fire service rescue team to start search operation on Tuesday night. The bodies were fished out on Wednesday and were later sent to GH for post mortem, said Manimangalam police.
