Counting day breaks routine of many youth in Kozhikode
Youth in Kozhikode shares their excitement on how the vote counting day would unfold.
Kozhikode: The city is awaiting election results with excitement. Many have altered their schedule for the day to keep updated.
“We have planned to watch TV at our hostel. We have to bunk classes,” said Anju Rajan, a radiation physics student at Calicut University.
“Counting day is like an action-packed cinema with a lot of suspense. It thrills.”
Mahroof Thalayad of Balussery has put a Rs 5,000 bet on the prospects of U. C. Raman. "So, of course, there's ambiguity and thrill,” he says.
Lukose Joseph, who works as a content writer in Bangalore, had applied for leave a month ago to participate in the victory rally.
“It is an uphill task to get leave on the counting day as most of my colleagues are from Kerala. I could foresee this and apply early,” he says.
“My chief said the elections had hit the functioning of the office hard as most of them are on leave.”
Doncy Augustine, who works with an MNC, applied for leave on the day the elections were called.
“If I reveal that it is for counting, those from other states would laugh at me. So it is secret,” she says.
Ajay Ghosh, a journalism student here, and his friends are all for K.K. Lathika and they have already booked a vehicle for the victory parade. But no fireworks.
“We’ll watch the trend on TV in the library," he says. "We have no plans to use crackers after the Paravoor incident."
Mustujab M. of Kunnamangalam is not ready to make any predictions on the current trend. “If our candidate wins, definitely we will celebrate," he says.
