Chennai: In order to promote metro rail services using selfies and food, as it nears a year of operation, Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) is planning to organise a food carnival at two metro stations, according to a senior official.

“The food carnival is slated to be held after the counting of votes ends. The locations have not been finalised but Ashok Nagar and Vadapalani metro stations are being considered. There will be things that interest children and youngsters as well,” said the official.

According to officials, this carnival primarily will be to promote awareness of Metro rail services and easy access to public. There will be a ‘selfie zone’ and a ‘kids zone’, which would be for selfie enthusiasts and children.

“In the selfie zone, people will be able to take selfies with a model of a metro rail rake. Kids will be entertained by a few games that they can play in the
kids zone,” an official added.

Metro rail, which began services in Chennai in June 2015, has seen few takers owing to the fare and availability of services on a single route as of now.

“This is a good means to promote it but keeping in mind the fares, and the current route, I don’t use it frequently,” said M Durai, an IT professional.
Another commuter, C. Meera, said that her child likes joyride on the Metro, and since it has a kids zone, she might consider attending the carnival.
