25 hurt as two KSRTC buses collide head-on

One of the KSRTC buses which collided head-on with another one at Parakkulam near Kottiyam in Kollam on Friday morning.

KOLLAM: As many as 25 persons were injured when two KSRTC buses collided head-on at Parakkulam near Kottiyam here on Friday morning.  The injured were taken to nearby private hospitals by the local residents and they are said to be in stable condition.  The incident took place at 6.20 a.m. at Parakkulam. A Karunagappally-bound superfast bus heading towards Thiruvananthapuram slid off while negotiating a curve and collided against a fast passenger that came from the Attingal side resulting in the accident.

The road was also wet due to the morning rain.  Conductor Jithin Krishnan and driver C.T. Pradeep with Karunagappally depot and conductor Santhosh and driver Shiju with Attingal depot are also among the injured.  The buses that were partially damaged in the collision were removed from the spot using a recovery van an hour after the accident.  According to local residents, accidents are a regular sight at Parakkulam area which lacks proper dividers to separate both the tracks along the curve.
