Telangana second worst performer in graft fight
In the area of citizen activism to curb corruption chart, Telangana state stands fifth.
Hyderabad: The Center for Media Studies (CMS) has ranked Telangana state as the second worst performer in the fight against corruption. Tamil Nadu tops the list, followed by Punjab. Andhra Pradesh placed fourth and Gujarat fifth. The list marks poor performers in terms of curbing corruption in availing public services.
According to the CMS report, the percentage of people who said the Centre was committed to reducing corruption fell from 40 per cent last year, to 31 this year. The survey estimated the quantum of bribes paid to access public services in 13 states, including AP and TS was Rs 2,500 crore to Rs 2,800 crore. Citizen participation was found to be very less in Andhra Pradesh, and the state was ranked among those that need to motivate citizen activism.
The CMS-ICS survey was conducted during February-March in Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Punjab, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Gujarat.
