Ooty: The ‘Ooty Town Public Awareness Association (OTPAA)’ has appealed for the intervention of the Tamil Nadu Governor Mr. Banwarilal Purohit, who is camping at Raj Bhavan here in Ooty, to set right the faulty underground drainage (UGD)  system here and to instruct the municipal officials to plan for new era drainage scheme to match strides with the present development in the hills.

Mr. G. Janardhanan, President of the OTPAA, while speaking to DC on this issue, said that the present UGD that which was laid 25 years ago, was without any long-term vision as  it was planned  to handle drainage disposal of  the existing buildings then.

What is so pathetic is that this UGD has begun to crumble now and man-holes are sinking down thus showcasing the poor quality of works.

While the municipal administration is insipid and failing to address the faulty UGD in the town, the district administration of Nilgiris too is a turning blind eye to this issue though the media often highlighted this issue, he noted.
