Thrissur: Rupesh daughter ties knot

Thrissur: T.R. Ami, daughter of Maoist couple Roopesh-Shyna, married Arkadeep, an MBBS student of Kolkata, here on Saturday.
Their marriage was registered at Valappad here and Roopesh attended the wedding after he was released on a seven -hour parole from Viyyur Jail.
The reception will be held at Vyapara Bhavan at Vadanappilly near Nattika at 10 a.m. on Sunday.
Roopesh and P.A. Shyna, who were wanted in connection with at least 30 cases, were arrested along with three other suspected Maoists by the Andhra Pradesh police from Coimbatore in May 2015.
Shyna was out on bail in August 2018 and Roopesh is still lodged in Viyyur Central Jail.
Ami, who is doing her course in foreign studies at Santiniketan in Kolkata, met Arkadeep ('sunlight' in Bengali) as functionaries of the All- India Council of Students' Struggles.
Ami posted on her Facebook profile the transcript of a letter written by Roopesh on the occasion of her wedding. It said that but not for the intervention of political leaders like Kanam Rajendran, Ami would have also been put behind bars after the arrest of the couple in 2015.
The letter also says that as a teenager Ami had fought for getting a bail for her mother and that she has chosen her life partner by herself.
Roopesh and Shyna had been active in several protests in Thrissur, including against the pollution caused by Nitta Gelatin in Chalakudy, before they went into hiding.
Shyna and her younger sister Savera were since then taken care of by their family members at Valappad.
Former minister and CPI leader Binoy Viswam came to Valappad to greet the couple on Saturday.
