The commuters shared their delight that their wait is finally over.

Bengaluru: At the Kempegowda Metro station, commuters were impatiently waiting to have a seat in the first few services towards Yelachenahalli that commenced at 4 pm on Sunday.

The commuters shared their delight that their wait is finally over. “I have been waiting for this phase to be functional ever since the blueprint was out. After a lot of delay, it is finally a reality,” said Mr M.S. Thukkaram, who took the train to Yelachenahalli. “The authorities should think of expanding the project to reach every nook and corner of the city.

It will help a huge population of techies who work late into the night,” he said.

Techie G. Shubham Anand pointed out to problems at the central station. “I found it difficult to reach the Purple Line platform from the Green Line platform, as signboards were confusing,” he said. Otherwise, he was full praise for the new line. “It is like a fully-cooked meal for us to savour,” he said. He believed that lights on the route map in the train would help commuters keep track of their journey.

For college student Shanmitha Padmanabhan, the new line will save time as it connects the centre of the city from different areas. “My commute from anywhere to Indiranagar will now take under an hour and I don’t have to suffer pollution on the road. Though there is a hike in the fares now, it is totally worth it,” she says.

Ms Supravika Hegde, a software engineer, has been waiting for a transit in the Metro from Vijayanagar to Jayanagar for long. “Though I can save more than 20 minutes to and fro, the Metro is always crowded nowadays. Adding more compartments or increasing the frequency during peak hours will help,” she said.

Couple Prasoon G. and Tinsy Thomas, who hail from Kerala, said the central station will help them save time during their transit to and from their hometown.

“As the station helps Green Line and Purple Line converge at a common point, that too at Majestic, it ensures that we reach on time to catch the bus or train to go home,” they said.
