Hyderabad: Pimps use pics of commoners by downloading it from social media

Hyderabad: Sex racketeers are using pictures of good looking women after downloading them from social media platforms, including Instagram and Facebook, to lure customers.

The pictures are downloaded and posted on web portals or sent to customers through WhatsApp and Telegram.

“On many occasions, the organisers send a different picture just to make the customer part with the money and they send him to some other girl,” said an official of the Special Operations Team.

“As the entire activity is illegal, the customers don’t approach the police nor fight with the organiser,” the SOT official added.

Profile pictures of women, mainly from North Indian states or NRIs are preferred because the women don't usually get to know about it. “They use photographs of good looking women as bait,” he added.  

SP Cyber Cell, U. Ram Mohan admits it is difficult to track down the person whose photographs are used.

“To avoid all this, before posting the photographs women should adjust the settings on social media platforms so that only their close and trusted friends can see the pictures. This simple technique will keep them safe,” he advised.

Additional DCP Cyber Crime Hyderabad, K.C.S. Raghuveer said that women should try to ensure that their photographs are not posted along with their names and addresses on social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and others.
