CPM will not defend secretary: Brinda Karat
Reacting to mediapersons queries on the issue in Delhi, Karat said the allegations were individual centric.
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPM politburo member Brinda Karat on Tuesday said the rape case against Kerala secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan’s son pertained to an individual and the party had nothing to do with it.
Reacting to mediapersons queries on the issue in Delhi, Karat said the allegations were individual centric. “If any individual who is accused of any crime has to face the consequences and prove whether he is innocent or guilty,” he added.
CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechury said he was not aware of the complaint. “I don’t know about it," he told reporters.
However, there was informal discussion at the central level about the case. It was pointed out to the leadership that the woman had earlier filed a complaint in connection with marriage. When that failed she came up the new complaint.
CPM state secretariat member M.V. Govindan was the lone party leader who reacted on the issue. He said the matter concerned an individual.
He said the party would not allow the adversaries to attack party state secretary on the issue.
