One lakh people to be vaccinated today in Prakasam district

Nellore: With the threat of third Coronavirus wave looming large over Prakasam district, Medical and Health Department officials have made elaborate arrangements on Sunday to vaccinate one lakh people in the district, especially mothers of children below five years and people above 45 years of age. In a statement on Saturday, district collector Pravin Kumar urged people belonging to the two categories that they make full use of this opportunity and get vaccinated for protecting themselves from the dreaded Covid-19 virus.
Authorities have identified 5.5 lakh women with children less than five years of age in the district, where 8.50 lakh people have already been vaccinated. The collector said advance measures for preventing the spread of virus will be key in containing the mortality rate.
Earlier, addressing medical officers and paramedical staff of paediatric wing belonging to different hospitals at an awareness programme held at Ongole on Saturday, Pravin Kumar pointed out that they will have to play an important role in the backdrop of predictions that the third wave will impact children the most. He appealed to medical personnel not to underestimate the third wave, so that they can save every life and prevent deaths.
The collector called for coordinated efforts among all departments in training human resources, besides equipping hospitals for handling the third wave effectively. He asked officials to organise awareness programmes for children’s specialists all over the district.
Joint collector T. S. Chetan, Government General Hospital superintendent Dr. Sriramulu and deputy superintendent Muralikrishna Reddy were among those present at the meeting.
