1 dies, 18 hurt as tractor turns turtle in Guntur

Guntur: One person died and 18 others were injured, three seriously, in an accident in which a tractor rolled over at Kantheru in Guntur district on Monday while on their way to the Temporary Secretariat at Velgapudi in Amaravati capital from Guntur city. All of them were workers for the ongoing construction works.
The injured were admitted to GGH, Guntur, and the police lodged a complaint against the tractor driver. The locals rushed the injured to the hospital in ambulances.
CPM district secretary Pasam Ramarao pleaded that the government pay a compensation to the victims. The deceased was identified as G. Ven-kateswarlu of Prakasam district who came down to Guntur for the secretariat construction.
On the Monday morning, workers started their journey as usual from Guntur city and when they reached near Kanteru village, the tractor turned turtle. CPM activists staged a protest at GGH, Guntur, and district collectorate demanding justice to the victims of the accident.
They also alleged that the contractors of secretariat works did not give job cards to the workers. Contractors have been paying only Rs 300 to 350 per day per worker and there allegedly is gender discrimination.
