Puducherry: Puducherry Lt Governor Kiran Bedi slammed the decision of Karnataka government to transfer DIG (Prisons) D. Roopa from prisons department to the post of DIG, Commissioner for Traffic and Road Safety, in the aftermath of a report submitted by her regarding irregularities in the Parappana Agrahara Central Prison in Bengaluru which includes the special treatment being given to AIADMK general secretary Sasikala in the jail.
Describing it as ‘highly unacceptable’ the former IPS officer expressed “I find this a little out of place for Roopa’s transfer because this was not the time for transfer but this was the time to get to the bottom of the problem. I find this very, very unacceptable because this is reflective of the system. You wanted to hide further exposure. It’s truly out of place.”, in a video posted on her official Facebook page.
“However, the only option that Roopa now has, is to take up the next assignment with the same kind of courage and conviction and go on regardless.”, she added.
Praising the officer further Ms Bedi said “Roopa has been bold for having dared to record in writing and standing by it. To promote probity in public service this is most needed today.”
