Rs 50,000 birthday: Inmate does it in style in Hindalga jail

Belagavi: Just days after illegalities at the Parappana Agrahara Central Jail surfaced, more illegal activities allegedly taking place in other jails are coming to light. In a fresh expose, it has come to light that a notorious prisoner from Hindalga jail in Belagavi had a birthday bash along with fellow prisoners inside the jail. Photos of the birthday party have already gone viral on social media sites even as officials of Hindalga jail denied that any such party was held inside.

According to information leaked on social media sites, an inmate, Chetan Gowda, spent at least Rs 50,000 for his birthday bash, which was attended by several of his friends and jail-mates wearing party dresses. Even as jail sources denied that the party was organised inside the jail, it is said that Chetan Gowda and some of his jail-mates paid hafta on a regular basis to some jail staffers to carry on with their lavish lifestyle inside.

Another inmate, Anand of Bengaluru, who is facing a life sentence in Hindalga prison, also allegedly celebrated his birthday inside spending a huge sum recently. If the sources are to be believed, many rich prisoners, mainly undertrials, regularly use smartphones and other gadgets allegedly inside the prison. Though it has been denied flatly by jail authorities, what cannot be forgotten is that top police officers who raided Hindalga jail on several occasions in the past have seized mobile phones, SIM cards and alcohol from inmates' cells.
