Bengaluru: Mayor slams officials over Pourakarmikas salaries
The civic workers bombarded him with complaints of their salaries still not being paid.
Bengaluru: Mayor Sampath Raj on Wednesday paid a surprise visit to the BBMP west zone to find out if all the pourakarmikas were working, but the civic workers bombarded him with complaints of their salaries still not being paid.
Taking officials to task, Mr Raj asked them, “What is stopping you from paying the pourakarmikas ? It was only because of your negligence that Mr Subramani (a pourakarmika) committed suicide. Do you want to see some more deaths because of non-payment of salaries?"
He directed BBMP west zone joint commissioner Venkatachalapathy to serve notices to all the officials and said that none of the officials should be relieved of their duties or transferred till the pending dues of all pourakarmikas are cleared.
He said, “The pending salary of deceased Subramani is not yet settled. Why haven't officials opened a bank account in the name of Subramani's wife, who will also start working as a pourakarmika?”
On the delay in opening bank accounts of 551 pourakarmikas, the mayor called Syndicate Bank officials over phone and told them to open the accounts by Thursday.
‘Do not terminate us’
At the Yelankha zone, pourakarmikas who have less than one year of experience have been terminated. They complained that PKs who have gone on maternity leave too have been terminated and requested Mr Sampath Raj to absorb them.
