Amaravati: Muslims on Thursday celebrated Krishna Pushkaralu by taking holy bath at Pondugala ghat of Guntur district along with Gurazala MLA Y. Srinivas Rao. As many as 500 Muslims reached the ghat where they were received by Mr Srinivas Rao.

The Muslims, including women, entered the ghat and took a dip along with the MLA. While the Muslim men were seen wearing their traditional clothes along with conventional skull caps, the women wore burkhas while taking the bath.
Sk. Kalesha said that every religion preaches peace and humanity.

“We celebrate Ramzan and Bakrid festival and observe Muharram with Hindus and Christians in our village. Our elders used to celebrate Pushkaralu with our Hindu brethren, and we are continuing the tradition,” he said.

Mr Srinivas Rao, expressing happiness over affection shown by Muslims, said that the Pushkaralu is a festival of all people. He said that an essential aspect of Krishna Pushkaralu is worshipping the river goddess and seeking her blessing.

The MLA appealed to the people to take Pushkaralu baths without fail and pray that the River Krishna never runs dry.
