Hyderabad: The High Court served sought the government’s response to a petition seeking punishment of police officers responsible for confining P. Kanna Reddy of Vikarabad, and torturing him which damaged his kidneys.

Veera-swamy, Sri Vasu, M. Venkataiah, K. Shankaraiah, B. Shivaiah and Raghavender besides agriculture department employee Neeraja and her husband Veera Bhadres-war Rao despite an FIR registered on May 29, 2017.

Kanna Reddy told the court that he and his brother had applied for a licence to set up a fertiliser business in March 2017 but Ms Neeraja did not process the application and demanded a bribe.

When they refused, there was a quarrel which was recorded on his cell phone. Ms Neeraja lodged a complaint with the Mominpet police following which he and his brother were taken into custody, he said.
