Service records of Rajahmundry civic body staff singed
Based on preliminary inquiry, property loss was estimated to be about Rs 5 lakhs.
Rajahmundry: Service records of a section of employees and a few computers and photocopying machines were destroyed in a fire mishap at the administrative building of Rajahmundry municipal corporation office here in the early hours on Friday.
According to civic authorities, fire erupted due to electric short circuit in the ground floor of the administrative building resulting in partial burning of service registers of teachers, ministerial staff, office sub-ordinates, and bill collectors among other district staffers.
As soon as the fire department personnel were alerted about the mishap, they rushed to the spot and put out flames. The civic authorities say that service registers and office records were shifted to the council hall to secure them. Details of e-office and service registers of municipal office employees, hard disk drives of computers and scanners remain unaffected. Based on preliminary inquiry, property loss was estimated to be about Rs 5 lakhs.
Municipal commissioner V. Vijaya Rama Raju, Mayor P. Rajani Sesha Sai and other public representatives visited the municipal office and took stock of the development. The civic authorities said that an inquiry was ordered to find out the reason behind the fire mishap and maintained that the service registers of only a few employees were burnt.
