Undeclared emergency in the country: SDPI
The party sought adequate sanction of funds for flood relief in TN, as in other rain-battered states.
TIRUCHY: The Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) has called upon the secular parties and Muslim organisations to forget their differences and fight against the ‘fascist rule and dictatorship’ of the BJP’s Government at the centre, besides organising a national-level struggle by mobilising people’s support to protect democracy.
The SDPI’s national general secretary Abdul Majid, addressing a press conference on the sidelines of the party's two-day state executive commenced here on Saturday, under the leadership of the party’s state president Nellai Mubarak, rejected the BJP government’s justification for bifurcation of Jammu and Kashmir and withdrawal of Article 370. There was no urgency for such measures and the situation could not be compared to division of U.P. or Andhra Pradesh earlier, Majid said.
He said that there was an undeclared emergency prevailing in the country for the last three months which was weakening the country’s democratic set-up and federalism. The party sought adequate sanction of funds for flood relief in TN, as in other rain-battered states.
The SDPI’s national vice-president KKSM Tehlan Bagavi, national executive member Afsal Basha, state general secretary Nizam Mohideen and others attended the two-day state executive ending on Sunday.
