Notice to Telangana over exploitation in film industry
Ms Vasudha Nagraj said despite the representation of the petitioners to the government, the authorities have not taken steps to constitute a committee
Hyderabad: The Hyderabad High Court on Tuesday issued notices to the Telangana government seeking its response to a PIL questioning the action of the government in not taking any steps for the institution of a high level committee to go into the numerous complaints of sexual exploitation raised by women artists working in the 24 crafts of the Telugu Film Industry.
A division bench comprising Chief Justice Thottathil B Radhakrishnan and Justice V Ramasubramanian was dealing with the PIL by Ms. P Sandhya of Progressive Women Organisation, Ms. K Sajaya , journalist, Ms. PA Devi, cultural activist, Ms. Kondaveeti Satyavati and Ms. Makkapati Sumitra, social activists, Dr. ASRV Suneetha and Ms. Tejaswini Madhabhushi, researchers.
Ms. Vasudha Nagraj, counsel for the petitioners said despite the representation of the petitioners to the government, the authorities have not taken steps to constitute a committee. Making it clear that it was the responsibility of the government to protect women, the bench felt that it was necessary to seek the assistance of the Legal Services Authority in this matter.
