At the end of a four-hour meeting, the Telangana state convinced the Krishna River Management Board to allot it an additional 4 percentage point share in the main storage in the Krishna river.

HYDERABAD: Senior Counsel C.S. Vaidyanathan on behalf of the Telangana government sought several details from Mr M. Visweswara Rao, a designated witness on behalf of Andhra Pradesh, on utilisation of Krishna water outside the river basin, before the Justice Brijesh Kumar Tribunal. In reply to a query, the witness said that Krishna basin being a single hydrological unit, the operation of all upstream projects would affect the operation of the downstream projects.

On the need to apply operational protocol in sharing waters, the witness said that the operational protocol if applied to all the states was a better hydrological solution and the optimised deficit would be there in all the projects.

However, if it was to be implemented between the states of AP and TS the prorate sharing of the Tungabhadra may be followed in the event of deficit flows. Pennar, Paler basins were deficit basins and they did not have water for drinking purposes. He accepted that dependable yield of Pennar basin was 98.649 TMC in the undivided Andhra Pradesh.
