Hyderabad: The Hyderabad High Court has directed the Ranga Reddy collector to maintain status quo with regard to demolition of houses of petitioners in Meerpet for two weeks.
Justice P. Naveen Rao granted the order while dealing with a petition by Ms Ramavath Sharada and 13 other women challenging the demolition of their pucca houses under the guise of providing 2BHK houses to them.
The petitioners said that they had given a representation to the collector stating that the tahsildar and project director (housing) were taking steps to demolish their houses.
They said the collector had assured them that the houses would not be demolished. Despite the assurance, local authorities resorting to coercive steps, they claimed.
While granting the status quo order, Justice Naveen Rao directed the respondents to file their counter affidavits.
