Hyderabad: Speeding police vehicle mows down pedestrian
The accident caused a serious blood clot in his head.
Hyderabad: A pedestrian, who was hit by a speeding police van while crossing a road in Uppal on Sunday, died while undergoing treatment at the Gandhi Hospital on Friday morning. The driver of the police vehicle, an Armed Reserve constable, was arrested and produced before a court the judicial remand by the Uppal police.
According to the police, Chander Rao, 35, a resident of the Shubhodaya Colony in Karmanghat, the sole breadwinner of his family, who was living with his wife and a one-year-old son, and working at a nursery in Ghatkesar.
As per his routine, Chander boarded an auto and reached Uppal X roads on Thursday morning, from where he had to go to work. At around 6.45 am, when he was crossed the median and was about crossing the road, a speeding police van, registration number: TS 09 PA 3618, heading from LB Nagar towards Uppal hit and knocked him down, the police said. The van was assigned to B. Bhas-kar, detective inspector, Kushaiguda, who was pr-esent in the vehicle when the accident took place.
Chander fell on the road and suffered a fracture to his left hand and injuries on other parts of the body. The accident caus-ed a serious blood clot in his head. An ambulance shifted the victim to Gandhi Hospital for treatment, where he succum-bed to injuries at around 6.30 am on Friday.
“Based on a complaint from Chander’s cousin P Srikrishna, a case was registered against the van driver. The body was handed over to the family after conducting an autopsy,” said Uppal SI S.K. Mybelly.
