Chennai: The Supreme Court of India has ordered maintenance of status quo as on today (Nov 15) in respect of selection to the post of Principal of the four constituent colleges (including the selection of N.Shettu as Principal of Pachaiyappa’s college) of Pachaiyappa’s Trust Board.
A division bench comprising Justices D.Y. Chandrachud and Hrishikesh Roy ordered maintenance of status quo on the Special Leave Petitions filed by N.Shettu and others, challenging an order of the division bench of the Madras HC dated Oct 21, 2019.
The bench posted after six weeks, after M.A. Gouthaman accepted notice on behalf of the respondents-R.Natarajan, M. Kolangiappan, T.Sekar. S.Saravanan and K.S.Sridhar. A division bench comprising Justices R.Subbiah and C. Saravanan of the Madras high court had on October 21 upheld an order of a single judge, which quashed the selection to the post of Principal of the four constituent colleges of Pachaiyappa’s Trust Board.
Dismissing the appeals filed by N.Shettu and five others, challenging an order of a single judge dated April 24, 2019, the bench had also appointed Justice N.Paul Vasanthakumar, a retired judge of this court to constitute a fresh selection committee for selection and appointment of the Principal of the constituent colleges administered by the Pachaiyappas trust board and also complete the entire selection process as soon as possible, preferably within three months.
