India delivers 32 tonnes of aid to Palestine
India has urged the conflicting parties to de-escalate, eschew violence
New Delhi: India on Sunday delivered 32 tonnes of aid to the Palestinian people using the Indian Air Force's C-17 Globemaster transport aircraft, destined for the Egyptian airport of El-Arish. Humanitarian assistance is reaching the besieged Gaza Strip through the Rafah border crossing with Egypt. External affairs minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar affirmed on the social media platform X, "We continue to deliver humanitarian assistance to the people of Palestine."
During the recent Voice of Global South Summit hosted by India in Virtual mode, Prime Minister Narendra Modi mentioned that India had sent seven tonnes of medicine and essential medical supplies to Palestine in response to the West Asian crisis.
In the midst of the West Asia crisis, External Affairs Minister Jaishankar conveyed greetings to Palestinian counterpart Riad Maliki last Wednesday and extended wishes to the "Government and people of Palestine on their declaration of Independence Day." He emphasised India's enduring friendship and development partnership with Palestine. New Delhi highlighted its development assistance, including schools funded in Palestine, the Jaipur Foot Artificial Limb camp, the Palestine-India Techno Park, the Diplomatic Institute Project, rehabilitation of Yaseer Arafat Square, the Women Empowerment Centre, and the National Printing Press.
India has urged the conflicting parties to de-escalate, eschew violence, and work toward creating conditions for an early resumption of direct peace negotiations.
