CBIT opens but fee row continues
More than hundred cops, including special protection force and 10 police sub-inspectors were deployed on the campus since 8am.
Hyderabad: Classes in Chaitanya Bharati Institute of Technology (CBIT) resumed on Monday after remaining shut for a week on the orders of college authorities. More than hundred cops, including special protection force and 10 police sub-inspectors were deployed on the campus since 8am.
Narsingi police took seven students from CBIT into preventive custody and later released them in the evening. Eight student leaders of ABVP, not belonging to CBIT, were booked and sent to remand, police said.
Students alleged that they were forced to sit in classrooms and not allowed to meet parents who were barred from entering the campus.
However, college principal Ravinder Reddy denied allegations made by the students and parents.
Telangana Parents Association (TPA) general secretary B. Ramu Goud said, “There was confusion about which students had to pay the enhanced fee. As per the Saturday's circular, 80 per cent of the students’ parents would have to pay from their own pockets or with government help. But education minister Kadiam Srihari clarified that the government would not pay any more beyond the agreement, which is Rs 1,13,500.”
He added, “This creates unease among students and parents, but the management is not willing to even meet the parents. In these circumstances, parents are forced to unite to fight against the arbitrary decision on fee hike. They are planning to form a union and meet the Deputy Chief Minister and start legal proceedings. The TPA will continue to support parents until the problem is resolved.”CBIT
