Chennai: Senior police officer R. Sudhakar serving as the joint commissioner of police (JCP) (north) in which RK Nagar constituency falls has been transferred by the election commission on Monday ahead of the bypolls.

JCP (traffic) Prem Anand Sinha has been posted as replacement with immediate effect, according to a statement from Election Commission of India. The chief electoral officer, Tamil Nadu, is to send a compliance report to the commission by 1 pm on Tuesday.

Sudhakar is the first senior to join the list of police officers transferred ahead of bypoll.  On Friday, election commission transferred five inspectors after DMK organising secretary RS Bharathy submitted a petition with chief electoral officer providing a list of police officers to be transferred alleging biased conduct.

Earlier this year, in February, Sudhakar was among the police officers who entered legislative assembly to evict protesting DMK MLAs, wearing white uniforms to pass off as marshals of ward and watch staff. He was Deputy Commissioner (Ambattur) then.
