Hyderabad: Crop failure and increasing burden of debt forced two cotton farmers to end their lives in Nalgonda district on Sunday night. The deceased, identified as Sukka Maramma and her son Sukka Yadaiah, consumed toddy mixed with pesticide, police said. The family had borrowed over Rs 4 lakh to invest on farming on their land.
Yadaiah, 42, mixed pesticide in toddy when his wife and kids were asleep, gave some to Maramma, 62 and consumed the rest. Family members later alerted neighbours who brought the two to Hyderabad for treatment. They, however, succumbed on the way, police said.
