Bangalore University Syndicate approves Digital Evaluation Centre proposal
“The software has cost us Rs 25 lakh. We have decided to hand over a one-acre land in Janabharathi for the centre,†said a Syndicate member.
Bengaluru: To make evaluation swifter and more efficient, Bangalore University (BU) has decided to join hands with the Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) to set up a joint digital evaluation centre in the city. The centre, which will be housed at BU Jnanabharati campus, is expected to help the varsity overcome issues related to errors and delays in announcing results and evaluation.
Confirming it, a varsity official told Deccan Chronicle that the decision was taken by the Syndicate at a recent meeting. “With the centre on our campus, the evaluation for both BU and the Visvesvaraya Technological University will be centralised which will help in better evaluations and faster announcement of results,” the official said. Vice-Chancellor Dr K.R. Venugopal said that the software will used to evaluate the answer scripts of first-year undergraduate students in its initial phase.
“It will be extended to others if it proves successful,” he said. The answer scripts will be kept confidential and the new online process will help the university cut the cost of outsourcing as a team from the Visvesvaraya Technological University trained BU officials on how to handle the process in October this year. The Bangalore University Syndicate has decided to provide land and an exclusive building for the centre’s operations.
