Five Omicron cases reported in Dakshina Kannada, four recovered
The First Cluster case was reported from a school in November
Mangaluru: The Genomic Sequencing report on Saturday has tested five COVID patients in Dakshina Kannada district with Omicron variant. Of these four have already recovered.
Karnataka State Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Sudhakar on Saturday tweeted that two cluster outbreaks of COVID were reported from two educational institutions in Dakshina Kannada today.
“Of the 14 cases, four are Omicron in the first cluster. In the second one, of the 19 cases, one is Omicron,” he said.
Officials said that both these are old clusters and the samples were sent for genomic studies on December 10. The report of the genomic studies had come on Friday.
The First Cluster case was reported from a school in November.
“According to instructions of the state government we sent samples of the positive cases in the first cluster for genomic study on Dec 10 and received the result today,” Deputy Commissioner Dr. K V Rajendra said.
“Health officials today visited the school and all students are healthy. The students or their parents do not have travel history to Kerala or other countries,” he said.
All these students have now recovered and are negative.
“Another cluster reported from a nursing college where 19 students tested Covid positive. We had sent the report for the genomic study on Dec 10. The result states one as Omicron positive,” he said.
The health department met this student. The student has no travel history and she is also healthy with no symptoms.
