Kakinada: Businessman donates Rs 100 crore to eradicate poverty
Tikku said that Mr Ravishankar is the only person after Bill Gates to donate such a huge amount to Rotary Foundation.
Kakinada: A real estate businessman and Rotary Club president from Karantaka state, D. Ravishankar, said that he aimed to eradicate poverty and improve literacy state in the country. For this purpose, he donated Rs 100 crore to the Rotary Foundation recently. Mr Ravishankar owns Rs.130 crore.
Addressing a gathering at a programme held here by Rotary Smart City, Mr Ravishankar said that he toured the north-eastern states and observed poverty and illiteracy rampant. He said he wants to eradicate poverty and illiteracy in India for its development.
He noted that many youth were addicted to drugs that needs to be eliminated from society. These youths should be useful for society and should be provided a bright future.
After studying several service organisations, he chose Rotary Club for donating the funds to improve lives of people. He said his two daughters appreciated his gesture to donate the money and he felt very happy by their response.
Praising the services of various Rotary Clubs in Kakinada, the businessman thanked the organisers. The District Collector Karthikeya Misra participated in the programme and appreciated the gesture.

Rotary Smart City Club president Kurella Suryanarayana, elect president Jagadish and others said that they would take inspiration from Mr Ravishankar.
