Kodiyeri Balakrishnan contradicts VS on Alappad
The emphasis should be on environment conservation along with protecting the interests of the workers.
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan on Saturday contradicted veteran leader V.S. Achuthanandan's demand for stopping sea sand mining in Alappad.
The state secretary said that it was not practical to shut down the companies and jeopardise the interests of the workers. The emphasis should be on environment conservation along with protecting the interests of the workers.
Kodiyeri said he was sure that Achuthanandan would change his stand after getting the true picture in Alappad. He said everyone should wait for the findings of the expert committee constitute by the government.His remarks come close on the heels of CPM state secretariat rejecting Administrative Reforms Commission Chairman Achuthanandan's demand to stop sand mining in Alappad. The secretariat had pointed out that public sector companies like IREL and KMML cannot be shut down.
