3 more Ayukta courts planned: State to Karnataka High Court
Court said that mere decisions to set up more Lokayukta courts will not solve the problem.
BENGALURU: The state government on Friday submitted informing the High Court that it has decided to set up three more Special Courts for Lokayukta cases, in Bengaluru. The state said that it has issued a notification in this regard.
The court which was hearing a case relating to delay in disposal of Lokayukta cases, said that mere decisions to set up more Lokayukta courts will not solve the problem, but it should also work towards providing basic facilities along with human resources to run the courts effectively for speedy disposal of cases. The court expressed happiness about the honest efforts of the state in deciding over additional courts.
With regard to the court’s earlier direction about coming up with a separate manual for Lokayukta police on the lines of CBI officers, the state said that it has finalised the preparation for bringing out such a manual, and once the Home Minister, who is currently busy with local body elections, approves it, the state would take further steps in the matter.
Kambala case
The High Court has issued notices to Central, state government, Ministry of Home Affairs, state police, Animal Welfare Board of India and Udupi District Kambala Committee, following a PIL filed by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India against Tulunadu’s traditional buffalo race, Kambala.
