India gets app to keep its monuments clean

The government launched the tourism campaign to give new impetus to the Swachh Bharat drive.

Gandhinagar: Unclean tourist areas, garbage spilling around monuments will soon be a thing of the past. Come February 22, and the Union Ministry of Tourism will launch the ‘Swatchh Smarak Swatchh Bharat’ application.

The application will allow visitors and tourists to click photographs of litter and garbage, if any, in the vicinity of nearly 25 monuments covered by the Adarsh Smarak scheme and then post them on the app.

The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has collaborated in the clean monument initiative and will attend to the complaints.

Nonetheless, to ensure that the complaint has been attended to, the complainant will also be informed about the action taken.

"Just as campaign clean India sensitises society in important of cleanliness, this campaign takes it further to the tourist spots particularly the monuments. The application will be launched on February 22,"said Vinod Zutshi, Secretary, Tourism Ministry, at the inauguration ceremony of the Vibrant Gujarat International Travel Mart at the Mahatma Mandir Convention Centre in Gandhinagar.

With an aim to spruce up India's monuments and heritage sites and provide a hassle free experience to both domestic and International tourists all across the country, the government launched the tourism campaign to give new impetus to the Swachh Bharat drive.

"The Swatchch Smarak Swatchh Bharat application is one of the initiatives amongst many as part of clean monument campaign," a senior official said.

According to Zutshi both domestic and international tourism has grown manifold in last three years with initiatives like e-visa tourist facility among other tourist friendly initiatives and are also expected to further boost tourism industry. "There has been a 15 per CETP growth in domestic and 10 per cent growth in foreign tourists in the last three years. We hope that initiatives to make tourism hassle free will further grow the sector," he added.

Meanwhile, Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel inaugurated the three-day Vibrant Gujarat International Travel Mart late on Friday. The government expects investments worth Rs 3,000 crore.
