JNTUK officials get ST panel summons
They have to be present before the commission on March 23.
KAKINADA: The National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST) issued notices to Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Kakinada (JNTUK) vice-chancellor V.S.S. Kumar and registrar V.V. Subba Rao for hearing their arguments in a case filed by an assistant professor in biotechnology at the University, Malothu Ramesh belonging to the ST community. They have to be present before the commission on March 23. According to sources, the university implemented career advancement ccheme (CAS) to provide promotions to different teaching faculty posts. Malothu Ramesh also applied for the associate professor’s post. The university authorities refused to give promotion to him saying that he was not suitable. Ramesh approached the Commission and alleged that though he is eligible for CAS to get promotion, the university officials did not consider him. They appointed five committees which gave him clearance for CAS, except one. He stated that the committees verified his certificates and service details and then they concluded that he could get promotion. But, it is alleged that the officials changed some guidelines, especially to disqualify him for CAS.
Sources said that Ramesh is one of the few faculties that gets patents for their researches. He has secured four patents on his researches and brought '6 crore of projects to the university. It is learnt that he expressed his resentment to the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes, though he was making efforts to get image for JNTUK through his research activities, the officials were not giving him the due honour.
Sources said that 31 faculty members got eligibility for CAS out of 132 and Mr Ramesh was not considered. It is learnt that Mr Ramesh complained to the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes that he was being humiliated for not considering his CAS. However, the Registrar V.V.Subba Rao said that he did nothing in this issue as he has to act under the guidelines of JNTUK Vice Chancellor V.S.S Kumar. He had appointed a committee for selecting the eligible candidates for CAS. He said that he had to follow the prescribed rules and regulations in this matter.
