Kozhikode: Med fraternity protests against attack on nurse
The nursing team was rescued by the local people and police from the spot.
Kozhikode: The staff at Nadapuram government taluk hospital and nurses across the district are up in arms against police inaction in the case of attack on a staff nurse at Nadapuram while on duty.
The incident occurred on March 16 at Peruvankara in Kallachi under Nadapuram police station limit. Kozhikode medical college native and staff nurse at Nadapuram hospital, M. Likhesh, was attacked by a youth over parking issue.
The pain and palliative team of Nadapuram hospital was on their way to a patient visit in the van of Nadapuram gram panchayat and a youth parked his car blocking the van at Peruvankara. The tiff over this resulted in the youth showering abuse on the nurses. Later, he attacked Likhesh with a jackey liver making injuries on the face and hands of the nurse. The nursing team was rescued by the local people and police from the spot. But even after three days, the culprit has not been arrested.
"We need safety and protection while on duty. It is most unfortunate that police is trivialising such a serious attempt on a government nurse," lamented Nadapuram hospital superintendent Dr C.K. Aravindakshan. The hospital staff organised a protest rally on Tuesday. On Monday, the entire staff came to work tagging a black piece of cloth on their dress as a mark of protest. Nadapuram police said that the accused is a native of Jathiyeri and probe is on.
