Madhu Yashki Goud tightens fight in Nizamabad Lok Sabha seat
Cooperation of Congress leaders and poll management will be play a key role in his prospects, political observers said.
Nizamabad: Ending the suspense over the candidature for Nizamabad MP seat, Congress high command has finalised former MP Madhu Goud Yashki as its nominee. The decision of the grand old party has boosted the morale of the Congress and reportedly, he may give a tough competition to his political rivals in the fray.
Being two times MP from Nizamabad, Mr Madhu Goud Yashki has full grip over the parliamentary constituency. NRI turned politician Mr Yashki won as Nizamabad MP in 2004 and 2009 elections, but had lost in 2014 elections against TRS candidate Ms Kalvakuntla Kavitha.
Mr Yashki had strived hard to carve out a separate Telangana state. Mr Yashki had confronted the then Chief Minister, late Mr Y. S. Rajasekhar Reddy over the Telangana issue. It widened the gap between the district Congress leaders and Mr Yashki. In addition, he had also failed to develop party cadre in the district. Being a fair and outspoken leader, Mr Yashki had a good standing amongst the people. After his defeat in the last general elections, Mr Yashki had stayed away from Nizamabad politics.
With this background, Congress leaders had searched for a new face as their MP candidate. But Congress high command has strategically fielded him for yet another time from Nizamabad.
Cooperation of Congress leaders and poll management will be play a key role in his prospects, political observers said. Tapping of ground realities will definitely show an impact on the results, they added. In these circumstances, former MP Mr Yashki is trying to renew his relationships with party activists and different sections of people in both the districts.
