Congress looks at six to eight seats, with JD(S)’ three seats
As far as the JD(S) is concerned, all the three seats in which the Gowda family is contesting will be easy wins.
Bengaluru: A day after voting for the first phase poll in the state concluded, Congress party appears to be confident of winning at least six to eight seats including three high profile seats contested by the JD(S) in just concluded polling.
A senior leader disclosed that the party has not even taken into account the seats which are likely to see photo-finish results. “Bangalore South, Mangaluru and Chitradurga are witnessing very close fight but in all these constituencies, BJP enjoys slight edge ahead of us. In these constituencies every round of counting may spring surprise," the leader observed.
However, the party has lost its hope in constituencies like Mysuru-Kodagu, Chikkaballpur and Bangalore Central as the voting percentage in these seats as well as voting pattern indicate that the party is on a losing streak.
In constituencies like Bangalore Rural where D. K. Suresh is standing and Kolar, where former union minister, K. H. Muniyappa has been fielded, are on a winning streak, whereas constituencies like Chamarajnagar and Bangalore North indicate that Congress is slightly ahead of the BJP.
As far as the JD(S) is concerned, all the three seats in which the Gowda family is contesting will be easy wins. "Although, some of our own party leaders are casting doubts over Mr Gowda's victory in Tumakuru, it looks like Mr Gowda will scrape through in this constituency. Because of his stature as well as his meticulous planning, this will pay its dividends, but the victory margin will be very less," the source said and added that therefore the Congress was confident of winning six to eight seats including three of Janata Dal (Secular).
