KOZHIKODE: The Motor Vehicles Department is all set to launch automated speed violation detection system in the city with an aim to curb the increasing concerns of over-speeding on roads. All-vehicle automated number plate recognition (ANPR) cameras will be commissioned as part of the initiative.

The latest technology of the automated speed violation detection system will capture images of vehicles that violate speed limits and the cameras will also have the advantage of providing live feed which will be transmitted to the automated enforcement control room of the Motor Vehicles department. By launching the technology the MVD will also be able to trace out vehicles that operated without valid insurance, fitness and pollution control certificate.

The officials further said that inspite the department being on strict vigil on roads to curb the increasing violations, many vehicle users are still not ready to abide by the rules. By introducing the latest technologies the department will be able to enforce the rules more strictly.

Automated speed violation detection system will have the capacity to record speeds up to 240 km/hr by utilising the global shutter technology and is incorporated with an infrared flash system that has a synchronised low intensity/high intensity feature. This feature will enable the system to record images of both retro-reflective and non-reflective number plates.
