Mysuru: Former minister and Bharatiya Janata Party legislator S.A. Ramdas revealed on Friday that Kuvempunagar police have arrested the reporter of a vernacular daily, who along with three others allegedly blackmailed him for Rs 25 lakh on Monday.
Speaking to media persons here on Friday, Mr Ramdas alleged that on the morning of April 15, the reporter approached him with an article printed against him in his newspaper.
He threatened to publicise the article if Mr Ramdas did not give him Rs 25 lakh.
Mr Ramdas' personal secretary then approached Kuvempunagar police and lodged a complaint against the accused.
To make sure the police caught them red-handed, the reporter was asked to bring copies of the newspaper and while the advance amount was being handed over, the police arrested the accused, the BJP MLA said.
Kuvempunagar police said that they have registered a case of extortion in this regard. The other three reporters are absconding, they said.
