Cyclone Roanu to bring heavy rainfall in coastal Andhra Pradesh
Sea condition is very likely to be rough to very rough along and off Andhra Pradesh, Cyclone Warning Division of the IMD said.
Visakhapatnam: The cyclonic storm 'Roanu' over west-central Bay of Bengal remained practically stationary and lay centred about 60 km south-southwest of Vizag and 120 km northeast of Kakinada in Andhra Pradesh. The system is likely to move north-eastwards along and off Andhra Pradesh and Odisha coast and intensify into a severe cyclonic storm by Friday night.
Under the influence of the Roanu, Vizag, Vizianagaram and Srikakulam districts will receive heavy to very heavy rainfall during next 24 hours and the winds are expected to hit speed of 100 kmph. Spells of heavy rains lashed at various parts of Vizag, Vizianagaram, Srikakulam and East Godvari district on Friday morning and the Met officials predicted that heavy rains may report in Srikakulam and Vizag districts in the next 12 hours.
"Rainfall at most places with heavy to very heavy falls at a few places and isolated extremely heavy falls very likely over coastal Andhra Pradesh during next 24 hours and heavy to very heavy at a few places during subsequent 24 hours,” Cyclone Warning Division of the IMD said.
Sea condition is very likely to be rough to very rough along and off Andhra Pradesh and South Odisha coasts during next 48 hours and off North Tamil Nadu coast during next 24 hours.
Sea along coast off West Bengal is also likely to be rough to very rough on May 20 and 21. "Storm surge of about 0.5 to 1.0 metre is likely along Andhra Pradesh coast during next 24 hours," the CWD added.
